Harrogate Town Plan Forum - Next Meeting : Thursday 28th November 2024

Many of you have attended one or both of our last two Forum meetings when at the first one, David Waddington led on the town economy and at the second, Jemima Parker led on transport. Interesting discussions followed and we have recorded a considerable number of issues arising. These are being circulated separately.

Our next forum meeting is on Thursday 28th November, from 7 till 9pm at West Park United Reform Church (on the corner of West Park with Victoria Avenue). The subject is “Housing” and a thought provoking presentation will be given by Jonathan Foggitt. This is one of the most important topics we will cover under Neighbourhood Planning and we are sure there will be plenty to discuss. It would be helpful to have an indication of how many plan to attend – please send a quick response to info@harrogatetownplan.org

These forum meetings are looking at an initial list of core topics, identifying issues which are important to members but we now need to delve deeper into each subject. We plan to do this by setting up small working groups which will meet 3-4 times to review how the existing Harrogate District Local Plan covers these issues, identify further issues and evidence, and then consider if those issues should be covered in a neighbourhood plan – and how. We know that some of our identified issues are likely to be better dealt with by other types of plan or action, but as a community-based forum the issues need to be identified and we will pass all our findings to the new Town Council when it is formed in May next year.

This is your chance to start to make a real contribution to the future of our town and if you are interested please drop an email to info@harrogatetownplan.org and state if you would like to join one or more of the following core topic working groups:

1. The Town Economy – led by David Waddington 2. Transport – led by Jemima Parker 3. Housing – led by Jonathan Foggitt

More forum meetings are planned for early 2025 and some key topics have been identified: ‘Heritage and the Built Environment’ (led by TiƯany Snowden), the Natural Environment (in its widest sense including our green spaces, spa waters and how this supports crossover issues such as tourism), ‘Sustainability’ (including Climate Mitigation and adaptation) and ‘Health and Wellbeing’.

If you are interested in getting involved in one or more of these topics please also drop an email to the above address.

We have not forgotten that at earlier forum meetings some of you indicated topics of interested, but now discussions are underway and issues are starting to materialise we’re asking people to confirm their interest and also commitment to getting involved in the working groups?

I look forward to seeing as many as possible on Thursday 28th November.

Best wishes
