Happy New Year from Community Fit

After January’s snow and ice gave 2025 a frosty kick off, it’s safe to say we’ve all had a bit of a wobbly start to the year. As February peeks around the corner, you might now be reflecting on those bold new year’s resolutions you made and the successes – or otherwise – of those optimistic plans.

Firstly, don’t beat yourself up if things haven’t quite worked out as you’d planned. Fun fact: 43% of resolutions bite the dust by the end of January, mostly thanks to sky-high expectations, zero free time and good old-fashioned procrastination. Sound familiar?

If being more active or volunteering was part of your plan for 2025 and neither have quite panned out as you’d imagined, then Community Fit might be the answer. The project combines being active with helping out in the community – and having a right good time whilst doing so.

Every Wednesday a group of up to 20 members (‘FitStars’) run or walk together at an easy chatty pace to a local charity, school, community group or environmental project where we help out for an hour before heading back. Helping out involves anything from sorting donations, gardening, delivering leaflets, tidying a warehouse, litter picking or digging ponds. These are jobs that wouldn’t get done without our support and make a huge difference to the various charities we support.

For just a couple of hours a week we can guarantee triple endorphins – the opportunity to be active, give back to your local community and increase your social connections. By joining forces in a group setting, our members collectively make a substantial impact to their community while only contributing a small portion of their time.

As one of our FitStars says: “The magic for me lies in the combination of social connection, movement, giving back to the community and getting out into green spaces. I’ve experienced a positive ripple effect since joining… I’m signing up to events, feel more connected to my community and getting to meet some lovely new people. You get so much for a couple of hours each week – who doesn’t want a return on investment like that?!”
