Fun For All The Family At Harrogate Children’s Festival
Harrogate International Festivals is hosting a weekend-long Children’s Festival this summer, with everything from science and storytelling to drumming and dancing.
The two-day extravaganza takes place on July 6 and 7 in the lavish and colourful Spiegeltent with all kinds of exciting activities designed to spark joy and fire imaginations.
Starting with Sublime Science, an interactive science workshop packed full of “magic” tricks and spectacular experiments, the Festival also offers youngsters the opportunity to have a go at Bhangra dancing in a special workshop run by Punjabi Roots, who wowed audiences at last year’s Carnival.
There’s also the chance to join a beginner-friendly, hands-on session with traditional Indian Dhol drums, led by educators from Punjabi Roots Academy, for those who want to explore a different kind of beat.
Author and illustrator Liam Callaghan helps children explore their five senses through an immersive tale of the mysterious neighbours upstairs, whilst Hoglet’s Theatre rewrite the Bard with wild characters, raucous singalongs and puppets in an imaginative and interactive performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Mischief’.
The beloved family silent disco is back by popular demand to close the Children’s Festival on Sunday afternoon, with children and adults of all ages invited to dance along to a range of top tunes on the Spiegeltent’s fabulous wooden dance floor.
Sharon Canavar, Chief Executive of Harrogate International Festivals, said: “The Children’s Festival is a brilliant and fun-filled way of inspiring our children and helping them learn about music, dance, science and storytelling, and the Spiegeltent is a magical setting in which to excite young minds.
“There really is something for everyone at the Children’s Festival this year – and we can’t wait to see families strut their stuff to some fabulous tunes on our dance floor at the Silent Disco!”
